About Wild Mountain Soap Company

Wild Mountain Soap Company is a small-batch soap and bath-and-body maker in the New River Gorge region of West Virginia. Phillip Peelish and Mary Hubbard started making soap in the kitchen after one shower with a homemade “Relax” bar — vanilla, lavender, and spice — made the difference in their skin obvious.

Production began in late 2012. We sold to local shops, cabins, and B&Bs, then took the bars on the festival circuit. The kitchen got too small. Today every full bar is still cold-process soap, cured 4–6 weeks, and cut to about 6.5 ounces — a bigger bar than most “natural men’s” soaps sold online.

What we make

Handmade bar soap, aluminum-free deodorant, lotion, body oil, beard oil and balm, sugar whip, and a few West Virginia oddities (Mothman, Squatch, Hillbilly Hippy). The base oils are coconut, palm, olive, shea, castor, and cocoa butter. We superfat the recipe so the lye is used up and the bar stays gentle.

Our soap is the amenity in selected West Virginia State Park cabins and lodges. If you already used a little bar at a park, the full-size version is the same recipe.
